Davey A Senior Pit Bull Beats The Odds
In this video a senior pit bull named Davey beats the odds.
Mr Bones and Co. has an operation called One Lucky Pup where they rescue and restore to health dogs facing incredible odds.
This animal rescue group thinks that although not all dogs improve they have the right to spend whatever time they have left in a loving home.
Davey was eight years old when was given up to shelter in Long Island, NY.
He had heartworms and an unknown neurological issue.
After hearing about Davey Bones & Co. decided they would rescue him although they didn’t have a foster home available.
Their partners at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists located in Manhattan immediately started to evaluate, test and analyze Davey.
Davey’s treatment plan contained lots of love and attention.
It was discovered that Davey had cerebellar abiotrophy.
Cerebrellar abiotrophy is an ongoing neurological disorder that affects certain breeds like pit bulls that they are born with.
It causes them to lose sense of space and distance resulting in making balance and coordination hard. It is incurable.
They got lots of emails after they shared Davey’s story.
Some felt Davey should be put down.
Some felt having someone adopt him was impractical and felt they should only locate a foster family for him.
People who had never come in contact with Davey was telling them what was best for him.
But then they received an email from a family.
It was from Heather and Kabrina who lived in Pennsylvania who owned a house full of dogs who had special needs inquiring if they could meet Davey.
They stated they could take in one more special needs dog.
Two weeks after they rescued Davey and took him into their One Lucky Pup Program he left the shelter.
Heather, Kabrina and all their other dogs adopted Davey.
Davey’s life has only started.
