Autistic Boy Finds The Meaning Of Love Through A rescued Pit Bull
This is an amazing story. A fourteen year old autistic boy named Joey Granados never knew what love felt like until a rescued pit bull named Roxy opened his heart to love and affection.
From about age three Amanda Granados, Joey’s mom, knew that there was something different about her son. He turned away from her love and affection and wouldn’t even hold her hand her hand.
At age seven Joey Granados was diagnosed with high functioning Asperger’s. He always wanted to be alone and had a hard time adjusting in social situations.
When Joey was fourteen years old he asked his mom for a dog to help him deal with the loneliness and other apprehensions of his life caused by autism. Around Thanksgiving Amanda came across a Facebook post about a pit bull named Roxy by the Best Friends Animal Shelter and she felt Roxy would be a perfect match. So the Saturday after Thanksgiving they hurried down to Best Friends Animal Shelter and asked to see Roxy the pit bull and they fell in love with her time they saw her.
Joey and Roxy the pit bull are best friends now and she has changed his life. Roxy has opened his heart and taught him how to give love and show affection. The first time Joey kissed his mother on the cheek was when they adopted Roxie.
“I didn’t have too many friends growing up, but then we got Roxy and I’ve been able to make friends ever since,” Joey said. “At home, I’ve been able to hold my mom’s hand, kiss her, hug her and do a lot of things that I hadn’t been able to do growing up.”
