Court Sides With Service Dog Against School In Florida
This video is about a sweet Staffordshire terrier named Stevie who won the right to attend school with his human, 7 year old Anthony Merchante without any restrictions.
Anthony suffers from cerebral palsy and has seizures and trouble breathing at times. Stevie can sense when this is going to happen and alerts caregivers.
“I feel completely safe every time he is with the dog, because I know the dog will look for help,” says Alboniga. “When Anthony is having convulsions, Stevie starts barking and goes looking for us. Then he goes back to Anthony and stays with him.”
The local school board told Anthony’s mom Stevie could not attend school with Anthony.
For two years Anthony’s mom fought in court for Stevie, a trained service dog to be able to accompany Anthony to school.
A service dog can make all the world of difference for someone with special needs, so we are so glad that after this long fought legal battle U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom ruled in favor of Stevie allowing him to attend school with his human Anthony.
