North Bay Man Reunited With Pit Bull After Boat Sinks During Storm
Steve Ailoto and his best friend Daisy the pit bull were living on a boat anchored more than a mile off Sausalito, California.
Last Thursday he left Daisy on the boat to go help a friend during the massive rainstorms.
When he returned he found his boat had sunk.
“All I saw was the mast sticking up out of the water,” he told CBS San Francisco.
He thought he had lost everything including his pit bull Daisy however she escaped the boat, swam one mile and a quarter in the dark and found her way to the Sausalito Presbyterian Church where Steve and her would go sometimes for a free meal.
Reverend Paul Mowry found the wet dog in the church doorway early Thursday morning and called the police to have her scanned for a microchip.
The reverand was able to get in contact with the person at the secondary number on the microchip.
They told him that Daisy had been given to a good friend named Steve.
On Friday Steve reported Daisy missing to the police.
The reverend and the police who scanned the microchip put the pieces together.
Reverend Paul Mowry knew Open Door Ministries would be offering a free lunch that day and called to see if Steve was there and he was told that he was.
I walked over and said to Steve, “We have your dog.”
He said, “Are you kidding me?”
Reverend Mowry told him Daisy showed up at theĀ church.
He started sobbing and threw his arms around me. Reverend Mowry said. “That dog is his campanion. She’s his everything.”
Steve and Daisy are now homeless staying on a friend’s boat.
